If you had to make a guess about where the most people claim ancestries including Canadian, you might think of somewhere in northern Maine, or perhaps North Dakota; maybe even Washington state.  You probably would not guess Clark County in eastern Idaho. Or Gaines County in Central Texas, or Cochran County, on the Texas-New Mexico border. In that case, you would guess wrong.

A Social Explorer analysis of 2016-20 American Community Survey data finds Clark (25.8 percent), Gaines (19.6 percent), and Cochran (16.6 percent) counties have the greatest percentage of the 81.6 million people reporting at least partial Canadian ancestry in the U.S. They’re trailed by Terrell County, Ga. (14.9 percent) and Lafayette County, Ark. (7.4 percent).
