U.S. Foreign Born Population, 2020

Miami-Dade County, Fla., remains the only U.S. county where a majority of residents were born overseas, according to a Social Explorer analysis of 2016-20 American Community Survey data. Its percentage of foreign-born residents far exceeded any other U.S. county, with the No. 2 spot held by Queens County, N.Y. (46.9 percent) and Hudson County, N.J. (43.6 percent).

Fifteen U.S. counties reported more than one-third of residents born overseas, including Los Angeles County, Calif. (33.7 percent), San Francisco County, Calif. (34.2 percent), Aleutians West Census Area, Alaska (42 percent), and Colfax County, Neb. (35.7 percent). Twenty U.S. counties had no foreign-born residents; the largest among them was Jackson County, Ky., with no foreign-born people in its total population of 13,368.
