Conservative Cuban-Americans Helped Trump Win Florida in the 2020 Election

THURSDAY, NOV 12, 2020

President Donald Trump captured Florida’s 29 Electoral College votes, thanks largely to support from conservative Cuban-Americans. A Social Explorer analysis, however, shows Trump also fared better in 2020 than in 2016 among Hispanics living in the desert Southwest and Rio Grande Valley. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton took 24 of the nation’s 25 counties with the largest concentration of Hispanics in 2016; President-elect Joe Biden only won 18. Trump picked up majorities in Zapata, Kenedy, La Salle, Val Verde, Jim Wells, Frio and Hudspeth counties in Texas – all of which have Hispanic populations of 78 percent or more.

Use Social Explorer’s customizable mapping tools to view the U.S. counties with the greatest concentration of Hispanic residents.
