Social Explorer announces first release of election data

As talk of the 2016 presidential race and other contests heats up, you can now visualize United States election results with Social Explorer.  These presidential, senatorial, congressional and gubernatorial election data come from Dave Leip's Atlas of U.S. Presidential Elections. These data are available for map presentation only.  This first release includes election data down to the county level for all four offices from 2004, 2008 and 2012.  We also have gubernatorial, senatorial and congressional election data for 2010.  Click here to get started with the maps.

We'll soon be adding the newly released 2014 election data and the off-year gubernatorial elections, as well as historical election returns all the way back to the 1800s.  In addition to winners and voter turnouts, the maps also include voting age population, citizens of voting age population, and competitiveness.

Check out this map of the Democratic vote in the 2012 presidential election.  The bubble size represents the number of votes cast and the shading represents the percent Democratic, offering more detail and context to the election results.

The following map shows the competitiveness (or lack thereof) in the 2012 congressional elections.

Start exploring the election maps here, and stay tuned for more election and other data releases.
