Notes:
- Universe for this table is total population.
- User should note percentages are percent of U.S. population from a specific foreign place of birth.
- 1900 Census publication provided total male and female foreign born.
- In the county level, aggregation of persons from all foreign places of birth is the same as the sum of male and female foreign born. However, in the state level, aggregation of persons from all foreign places of birth over counts the sum of Census published male and female foreign born. This discrepancy occurred because state level’s total male and female foreign born counts were derived from aggregating county level’s total male and female foreign born.
- In the county level, depending on the state, selected foreign places of birth were iterated and others were omitted. Even though county level’s published male and female foreign born counts were the same as the aggregations of persons from all foreign places of birth, they were less than the actual total foreign born counts.
- State level did not omitted any places of birth, hence the aggregation of person from all foreign places of birth will always be higher than the published total male and female foreign born counts (Published Foreign Male and Female counts for the State were aggregates of counties’ total male and female foreign born, and since counties did not iterate all places of birth, state level’s published male and female foreign born counts will be lower than aggregation of person from all foreign places of birth).
- Aggregated table total for Continental U.S. and United States under counted the sum of published male and female foreign born by 7,115 and 7,233 respectively. These differences were below 1% of total published foreign born.
- Universe: “Total Foreign Born Population” was created by Social Explorer. CAUTION: County level’s total is the aggregate of selected foreign places birth (which was determined by the state). National and State level’s total is aggregate of all persons with a foreign places birth.
