Minorities make up slightly less than 40 percent of the U.S. population but own a majority of homes in fewer than 6 percent of the nation's 3,142 counties, according to a Social Explorer analysis of 2014-18 ACS data. Although many of the counties with majority homeowners are located on reservations or the Mexican border, they also include some of the nation's most populous counties, such as Los Angeles County, Calif.; Harris County, Texas; and Miami-Dade County, Fla.
