Where to Take Shelter?

FRIDAY, MAR 20, 2020

Sheltering in place may be a bit easier around the nation’s capital than one might imagine. A Social Explorer analysis found that 225 – more than one-fourth — of the nation’s 911 neighborhoods where the typical home has 10 or more rooms are located in the Washington, D.C. suburbs of Maryland and Virginia.

That’s almost twice the national average of 5.5 rooms per home. And while the number of rooms doesn’t necessarily mean a bigger house, it does indicate that there are more places to isolate.

Check out our interactive map to gauge the typical number of rooms in a house in your community.
