Where in the U.S. is There No Internet Internet Access?

MONDAY, AUG 30, 2021

The resurgence of the COVID-19 variant after a brief summer respite means school plans for many communities are uncertain. Millions of children may wind up spending another academic year learning online. But a Social Explorer analysis of 2015-19 American Community Survey finds more than half of households in 14 U.S. counties have no internet access; most are in predominantly poor, rural communities.

Almost 60 percent of households in Telfair County, Ga., reported having no internet access in 2019. Wheeler County, Ga., ranked second with 58.7 percent of households reporting no internet access, and Apache County, Ariz., was No. 3 with 58.6 percent. Use Social Explorer’s flexible, easy-to-use report-building and mapping tools to discover which counties are likely to struggle most with online learning.
