U.S. Rural Population in 2025

MONDAY, APR 12, 2021

The list of counties expected to add the most people through 2025 is fairly predictable: Maricopa, Ariz. (+181,262); Harris, Texas (+163,098); and King, Wash. (+98,298) are projected to be the biggest gainers in the U.S., according to Easy Analytic Software Inc. data analyzed by Social Explorer. The data estimates that almost 90 percent of the additional 6.1 million people in the U.S. will cluster in urban areas.

The counties expected to register the largest increase in their urban population include Charlton, Ga. (+12 percent), adjacent to Jacksonville, Fla.; Williams, N.D. (+10.8 percent), in the heart of the oil-rich Bakken Shale formation; and Franklin, Fla. (+10.4 percent), about 70 miles south of Tallahassee. Use Social Explorer’s customizable mapping tools to see your county’s expected rural population by 2025.
