Remember Work Commutes?

MONDAY, DEC 28, 2020

Although it may have seemed like a long time ago, it was only in 2019 that the average American endured a 27-minute commute to work. Four of the 10 lengthiest commutes could be found in New York City boroughs, but the longest average commute, 53 minutes, was reported by Mora County, N.M., about a 98-mile drive from Santa Fe.

Teeth-gritting, pre-pandemic commutes were also reported in Pike County, Penn. (47 minutes), about 80 miles northwest of New York, and Charles County, Md. (45 minutes), roughly 25 miles south of the nation’s capital. People working out of pandemic lockdown can see what they’ve been missing in terms of a commute with Social Explorer’s award-winning, flexible mapping tools.
