Population Less Than 18 Years in the United States

For parents, things can be worse when it comes to having to shelter in place with children during a pandemic. There's a big demographic silver lining, too: The greatest percentage of children live in some of the remotest places in the nation, according to a Social Explorer analysis of 2014-18 American Community Survey data. The Kusilvak Census Area, Alaska (40.5 percent); Todd County, S.D. (40.3 percent); and Oldham County, Texas (36.6 percent) are among places with the highest percentages of children in the U.S.
