The ACS is an extensive annual survey administered by the Census Bureau to a sample of about three million households nationwide. The data includes variables on income, race, ancestry, health insurance, housing, commute time and much more. 

This latest five-year ACS release (2012-2016) is available for geographic areas down to the census tract level and census block group level (where available), offering richly detailed demographic data.
