WEDNESDAY, JUN 16, 2021

Counties with high median incomes for Black households differ considerably from places with high incomes for white households, according to a Social Explorer analysis of newly released 2015-19 American Community Survey data. Only one of the 10 U.S. counties where Black households have the highest median incomes is among the 10 highest counties for white households.

Douglas County, Wash., and Chippewa County, Wis., which both have miniscule Black populations, reported median incomes exceeding $250,000. Sullivan County, N.H., which also has a tiny number of Black residents, posted a median income of $213,306 for Black households. The only county where both Black and white households registered median incomes in the top 10 was North Slope Borough, Alaska, where the Black median household income was $165,450.
