Change in Married-Couple Households in the Last Decade

The percentage of married-couple households, which constituted a majority in more than half of all U.S. states as little as a decade ago, has plunged. Married couples make up a majority of households in only eight states, according to the newly released 2019 American Community Survey. Even the percentage of married-couple households in Utah has fallen to 60.5 percent, down from 61.7 percent registered in 2009.
