U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Highlights Census Explorer in Silicon Valley Speech

US-DeptOfCommerce-Seal_300pxCensus Explorer, the recently launched collaboration between the Census Bureau and Social Explorer, added County Business Patterns data on establishments, employees, and average pay, with a special focus on the tech sector.  Over 100,000 users have created more than 3.7 million maps with Census Explorer.  

The tool and upgrade earned praise from the top levels of government.  U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker spotlighted the advancements the Census Bureau has made in visualizing key demographic and economic statistics.

In her speech, Pritzker announced Census Explorer’s newest data and potential uses to an audience of Silicon Valley’s most innovative companies.  “We are adding tech workforce and payroll data to those maps so that entrepreneurs and business leaders like you can see where tech workers are geographically concentrated…You will now be able to look at tech employment in regions like this one alongside other factors like education, labor-force participation and homeownership rates.”
